whoa and double whoa
Apr. 26th, 2003 01:28 pmSo I wrote an email to the author of this article in Reason, politely taking him to task for opening his article with giant spoilers for HP:PoA. He wrote back, apologizing and saying he figured anyone who hadn't read it yet wasn't going to. However, have just been asked by Reason if I'd like to have it considered for being published as a letter to the editor. Thoughts? On the one hand, a chance to strike a more-public blow in the cause for non-spoilage, on the other hand, maybe I sound like a whiny dork. Will forward letter if anyone's curious.
Secondly, someone posted to the grad househunting list about a room in a four-bedroom apartment, available 1 Sept, for $350 plus utilities, reasonable location fairly close to where I am now, no pets (key for me). Kapow! I replied saying I was interested, and they say they're around this weekend if I want to come look at it, and are looking to get the lease signed "the sooner the better". So I'm suddenly househunting. I see no reason not to go look at it, and, my god, if I could save that much on rent I might actually have *more* spending money next year. Er, savings money. Right, savings. ::grins, looks at airfare to Pittsburgh, old, tired computer, rubs hands together and cackles madly:: I suppose it would depend on being able to fit my furniture into it, and the housemates being decent sorts, but, god, the lure of cheap housing... okay, realistically, it's over three thousand dollars but it's still less than the difference between my tech and grad student incomes, so no luxury goods. Maybe an airfare. But, you know, the avoidance of debt and penury. Okay. Okay. Leaping ahead madly; room could suck, get taken, etc. But had sort of been thinking "what if I could avoid moving", and is a really good kick in the pants that it's just *not* worth it to scrape and sacrifice to stay here when by moving I could make that kind of difference in my budget.
