Okay, so I told Josh I would do a top three or five for him, and here they are. These are picked for Josh in particular, that I think he'll enjoy reading, in fandoms he'll know, but I'm listing them here to highlight them for anyone else who's curious.

You're My Best Friend (And I Love You). Huge, Becca and Chloe, 1100 words. Written for me, so it's possible I'm biased, but honestly I think this is a terrific story. By kyuuketsukirui (who it turns out wrote this really good SGA transgender teen AU I read ages ago).

A Temporary Inability to Go Either Up Or Down. Thief, Gen, 2200 words. By lightgetsin (who you may recall from my Vorkosigan-reccing awhile ago). (Anyone else reading this post: don't read this if you haven't read the books.)

The Heart of the Heart of the World. Two Gentlemen of the Road, 2000 words. By epicycles. (Maybe don't read this if you haven't read the book, either.)

So that's three short ones. For one long one, I'm torn between Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Equitable Agency, 16K words, A Piece of the Continent, Left Hand of Darkness, 14K words, and The Spiral of Lives, Avatar, 20K words, but am ultimately going to have to go with... gah. Humor, drama, action-adventure? Humor! Encyclopedia Brown.

(Chaos, the one long work for you: Baby-sitters Club The Next Generation #6: Byron and the God of California, unless you somehow managed to not read any of these despite being a girl the same age as me.)

I loved that "Thief" story!

Also, there was some really good Wimsey fic this year. There is pretty much every year, but I loved this year's. But maybe you have to know the canon for it.

Yes, Wimsey fic, also a category I anticipate with curiosity! My Wimsey recs are back in part... six. I think the standout for me this year was "Harriet and Sergeant", which ones jumped out at you?

Ring Out Wild Bells (I'm a sucker for Jerry): http://archiveofourown.org/works/147727

and the one about the Christmas presents, featuring Miss Climpson being awesome: http://archiveofourown.org/works/139974

I missed most of your recs as they came out--must go back and look.

Do I have to have read *all* the books to read the Thief fic? 'Cause I've only read ..three, I think, some time ago (loved 'em).

And can I just say, I'm picking and choosing based on my own familiarity with the various canons, and you're *still* totally keeping me up nights with these. Thanks! :-)

Aha. No, you don't have to have read all of the books, you only have to have read the first two. Go for it. (However, _Conspiracy of Kings_ is excellent and you should totally read it!)

Glad you enjoyed the recs! It was fun to do.

So when I was the relevant age, I read every single BSC book, and when Ann M. Martin came to do a signing, I was nudged forward by my mom to shyly ask my question. No, she answered, the girls would never grow up and get married.

So, thank you, fanfiction, for doing more with the world I cared about than the world's creator ever would.
