Vorkosigan fic recs 2: longer stuff
Nov. 24th, 2010 11:29 pmThe World That You Need series (bottom of that page) is gorgeous. The fourth story, the long one, is hot off the presses and amazing; don't rush through the first three to get there, though, because there are *so many* perfect lines and details here. Also, there may someday be *even more*, joy. This series is canon-compatible; it's about Aral and Cordelia and polyamory (and Barrayar, always Barrayar). Dudes have sex in the fourth part but it's so good you should read it even if you want to skim the sex bits.
The Deeper Season series, on the other hand, is most definitely AU, making a sharp turn away from canon immediately after Memory. Miles and Ekaterin are one of my favorite fictional couples - there are bits of Civil Campaign that are up there with Gaudy Night for me - so when I tell you that this story makes a different Miles pairing work for me, you know I'm talking about something special. There are three novels here plus a couple of novellas and assorted short stories, so, be warned, if you get sucked into this one you'll be spending quite a while there. Dudes are in love here but there is not a lot of explicit sexin'. I recced this story once before in a rather different set of recs, but if it seems familiar perhaps that's why.
