I thought Junie would enjoy another round of swim lessons, but decided to try the MOMswim exercise-with-your-baby class instead of actual baby swim lessons. We went to the first one today, and unfortunately, I don't think it's a great fit for us. The first half or so was mostly standing around in the water doing singing games, but Juniper wanted to be move-move-moving the second she hit the water, so she was a bit frustrated (I ended up sort of swimming her around me). Also, the (not-holding-a-baby) leader was making a big point of signing, but we couldn't sign along while holding our kids, so it felt very passive, just watching her do it. There was more moving around for the babies near the end but by that time Junie was cold and overtired and didn't want to be in the water at all. It probably would have been perfect for someone whose kid was a little hesitant and slow to warm up to being in the water but that is not my kid. And then the exercise part didn't feel like a great fit for me - this was my first exposure to Pilates, so I may have a false impression, but it seemed like it was all about a lot of shorter rapid movements whereas yoga does deeper slow movements, and there was just no way for me to organize my body to think about posture or what muscles I was engaging while moving so fast. Again, this would probably be great for someone with better bodily awareness, but not me. And it was murder on my knees (which I'm sure is "my fault" in some sense for not having stronger quads or whatever, but, ugh). We'll keep going, but I think if we do any more after this we'll go back to the child-centric classes, more fun for both of us.
