Who's 30: Agatha from Girl Genius.
Word Count: 293.
Warnings/Notes: adult themes

"Agatha?"

"Agatha."

"I shouldn't have said what I said."

"About Sparks doing their best work before thirty."

"I'm... I'm sorry. I mean, it is true that several of the most famous theoretically-inclined Sparks had made their major breakthroughs by thirty..."

"And if you go by, uh, publications - "

" - for those Sparks who bothered to write anything down - "

" - their earlier work does seem to be more frequently referenced..."

"although that could just be because it's generally less... cryptic. Encoded."

"More... accessible. Intelligible to the reader."

"Coherent."

"But that doesn't mean it's true in every case!"

"Or that I thought it would be true for you."

"And I definitely didn't mean to imply that I thought you were slowing down!"

"I think it's clear."

"That you're."

"Not."

"So whatever you're... building. You really don't need to - "

"Or. Look."

"If you're mad because..."

"You know I would never."

"I'm perfectly happy with our. Um. Intimate life."

"They were making stupid jokes, I shipped them off to the sulfur mines..."

"This really isn't necessary."

"I'm not going to leave you for someone younger and more nubile."

"Or more inventive."

"Innovative, visionary."

"Whatever."

"Even if there was a single other Spark in Europe who could keep up with you - "

" -which there's not - "

" - you're it for me."

"You're the... avant of my garde. You don't have to prove anything."

"So if you could just let me go and..."

"... we could..."

"... what are you... "

"Oh. Is... is that for me?"

"For... for both of... ohgod."

"Agatha, I..."

"Wait, I..."

"Oh."

"Oh. Oh."

"Agatha."

"Hhhh - "

"hap. Happy birthd- "

"Ohhh."

"nd. mmm."

"... many more... oh..."

"...Agatha!"

SUCH an appropriate tribute for Agatha, and ... well, really for a Foglio character, I suppose...

Thanks! I can't help but wonder if Foglio has a folder somewhere of Girl Genius sketches and plots deemed inappropriate for the comic... and if we'll ever get to see any of it, in some far-future publishing of the miscellany... ::grin::

The only thing this post is missing is a set of blueprints. :)

Hee! They'd have to be really complicated, so that you couldn't tell at a glance just what it was supposed to *do*...

But the possibilities would be very, very ominous. :)

(Did I mention I read through Girl Genius mostly because of your icon?)

Awesome. I'm always happy to be a good influence. ::grin:: Have you read any of Foglio's other stuff? He's putting up his sci-fi comic Buck Godot <a href="http://www.airshipentertainment.com/buck.html>online</i> - colorizing the black and white, which I find freakish and disturbing, but, hey, it's free and online. Some of the early stuff is mixed in quality but Gallimaufry, the long storyline that's running right now, is really quite good. His, um, *other* notable works are also quite good, if you're into that sort of thing. But not afaIk online anywhere.
