Sorry, I was using 'sweet' in the 'bittersweet' and 'awesome' senses, not in the "awwwwww" sense. In that regard, I found the story a less angsty than creepy. It highlighted the creepiness of the strip's eternal youth (Interview With a Vampire) and the idea of this vast conspiracy of unreality was creepy (The Truman Show). I didn't get the angst so much from the way it's currently written, though it's certainly plausible.
I might've just been distracted by the concept, though, as it really caught me.
