psocoptera: ink drawing of celtic knot (wedding)

I am all crazy trying to get ready as we fly out tomorrow morning and are on the trail Monday and, argh, work, argh. But I just had to take a moment to finally mention the niftiest thing ever:

This is a rug, designed and hand-hooked by Chaos in one of her geometrical designs - it's a pyramid, with the point in the upper right, and each face is a Sierpinski triangle or more likely some subtle variation on a Sierpinski triangle and it is orange and purple and soft and fuzzy and *amazing*. I was absolutely blown away when we opened it and it still boggles my mind to think of the time and effort and creativity that went into this... I have a fuzzy math art on my floor, and a Chaos in my life. Dude.

Whoa! That's so cool. Also, I had no idea Chaos made rugs (though I don't know why I'd necessarily know that) so I'm super extra impressed.

This is actually only my second foray into making rugs, the first being the proof-of-concept triangle that i made to see if the idea was realistic. I, umm, somehow managed not to mention that i had learned to make rugs because of the "Look everyone! I have mysteriously taken up a new creative hobby months before my best friend's wedding for... no reason whatsoever! Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" factor.

But now i have some yarn and a frame i put together, so maybe i will make more at some point, such as after i am no longer moving, to pick a random point.

Wow. That is totally even more awesome than I'd imagined it from Chaos' description!

Each time I look at the picture, the more amazing it is. That is so absolutely fantastic.

No, it actually is just a triangle on each face. This (the red one on the left) is a nice depiction of what it would look like from the side (and in fewer colours).

Also, nice photo. It looks a lot more three-dimensional than the actual rug does. :>)

Also, dude. I'm really glad you like it. And congratulations (again)!

So soft and fluffy! I stood on that rug in your apartment, fantasizing about how great it would feel to scrunch my bare toes in it. And that was before I knew that it was a math thing or that Chaos made it -- triple cool!

Wow, cool! I, too, did the toe-scrunching, for which the carpet was perfectly suited, and wondered whether its fractal nature was coincidental or intentional. No idea Chaos made it. Go Chaos!
