Untethered Sky, Fonda Lee, 2023 novella. Every novella I've ever thought about reading all came for me at the library at once - I do try to stagger my requests, how does this always happen - so, uh, that is competing with the possible reading of short fiction. Anyways, this one was great - giant falconry! On the scale of, uh, Pern dragons to pit dragons, the rocs are 100% animals, just straight up giant birds no telepathy, and Lee says interesting things about how that feels for the trainers working with them. And the action is great, and it's the exact right amount of story for the space.
