the last Earthsea story
Dec. 24th, 2018 10:04 pmWell, I've read it now. (spoiler cut) Had the sort of weird and unexpected effect of switching my brain from emotional brain to contextual brain (analytical brain?) - like, what I ended up with was a new batch of thoughts about why it wasn't the story I wondered if it would be, such that I'm probably a lot closer now to actually writing about that eventually. Definitely moving to think about why it was the story it actually is - like, it's very hard not to conclude that this is Le Guin grappling with her own imminent death, which, wow, yeah, although in my own case it turned out I had already cried those particular tears rereading "Day Before the Revolution" the day we heard the news, and, like I said, ended up reading this one not so much with my emotions. Anyways, yeah. Will probably post something about the Vess illustrations in general (which on first pass I'm not in love with) but not at this time.
