High Times in the Low Parliament
Nov. 25th, 2022 02:37 pmHigh Times in the Low Parliament, Kelly Robson, 2022 novella. So when I saw Robson describe this book on Twitter it was as a "lesbian stoner buddy comedy with fairies" (a description upon which I could not possibly improve). Subsequent marketing has apparently included the additional clause "about Brexit", which I did eventually figure out for myself, somewhere in the middle, when I was like "wtf is this even about" and then "ohhh wait". It is an odd little book! There is some fascinating worldbuilding in the background, which I enjoyed trying to piece together and puzzle out. In the foreground, I liked the main character, who was fun, and the plot... was sufficient to splice together the background and foreground? I don't know, I don't expect to see this one in the awards running, but it was entertaining and I think Robson continues to be interesting, in an "I am always curious to see what she is up to next" kind of way.
