Being Seen
Jul. 1st, 2022 11:03 pmBeing Seen: One Deafblind Woman's Fight to End Ableism, Elsa Sjunneson. Some of the memoir bits were interesting, or details about Deafblind life (I did not have much of a sense of how cane use works). Many valid and important points about ableism, although I feel like some of the disabled people in my life had already done a bunch of this work in making me at least 50-80% less dumbassed about disability (*remaining dumbassery not their fault at all, it's hard to wring out a sponge of the culture it's soaking in). I voted for Sjunneson for Fan Writer last year and generally feel like she's a valuable voice; I would love to see, like, high schools work a chapter of this into the curriculum somewhere.
