Sun-Daughters, Sea-Daughters

Sun-Daughters, Sea-Daughters, 2021 novella from Aimee Ogden. I nominated Ogden's novelette Blood, Bone, Seed, Spark in 2020 and her short story Never a Butterfly, Nor a Moth With Moon-Painted Wings this past year, so I was excited to see what she did with a little more space. This novella is a science fiction Little Mermaid retelling, and I did enjoy it - some well-realized settings without a lot of time spent on description, some really good moments and details - but it didn't quite have the sharpness or intensity of those other stories. "Softer" isn't necessarily a bad thing! But it did not punch me in a "dang, I need to make more people read this!" kind of way. But I'm certainly not, like, warning people off; it's a fine little read, and I liked the themes about choices and trade-offs.
