We took the kids a couple of weeks ago to see Big Hero 6. They liked it, which I guess means we can show them Iron Giant and The Incredibles now. (If you like those movies you'll probably like this one too.)

We got How To Train Your Dragon 2 from the library recently, a rewatch after having seen it in the theater. Dang I like that movie. (And the first one.) Probably if you wanted to read HTTYD fic you'd have gone and done that already, but I went on a major binge of it recently. Simple Gifts is over a hundred thousand words of ultra-slow-build Hiccup/Astrid set between the movies - this kind of thing is total catnip to me, where every little escalation of touch is fraught and significant. (It's kind of a pet peeve of mine in fanfic where teenagers in particular admit to a mutual interest and then like a paragraph later a dick is in someone's orifice. I mean, there are characters and situations in which I buy that, sure, but I also feel like "we've been dating for a couple of months and are both too scared to move our hands below each other's shoulders" is a thing, and all kinds of variations in between/sideways from those.)

Also showed the kids Pinocchio, a film of great significance in my personal backstory as it was the first movie two-year-old me ever saw, and I was very scared of the whale. The kids weren't super into it, probably not helped by the DVD glitching at the climactic escape and jumping ahead to Pinocchio laid out while Geppetto mourns. And honestly it's a weird story, between the long, overly-loving shots of cuckoo-clocks, the national-stereotype puppets, the donkeyboys going unrescued. My god there is some amazing animation in that thing though.
