Ok, we've all seen the February 2nd two-parter? Ok then. Here we go with what I hope will be weekly Lost blogging!

First, some thoughts: they did a great job of keeping the focus in the alternative timeline tight on the main cast, so that I was thinking "oh no, in this timeline Jin is still a dick! and Locke is still lonely and bitter and frustrated! oh god, Rose's cancer!" and I was not thinking *at all* about the two hundred-odd nameless faceless dead people successfully arriving in Los Angeles. Later on I was like, wait, who cares about the personal development of these schmoes, this should be a miracle-on-the-Hudson victory moment... I would have liked to have seen a couple of happy reunions with arriving loved ones (you know what I mean, dad and kids in the terminal with a welcome-home banner and tons of hugs for mom coming back from her business trip, etc) to remind us of the big picture, except they obviously didn't *want* us to be reminded of the big picture (except insofar as we're supposed to care about people who died *on the island* still being alive - Arzt, Boone, and Charlie), so, hey, nice work, Lost writers.

Also: Stupid Jack and Kate may be having a tough time in the new timeline, but the characters I actually *like* - Sayid and Hurley - seem to be pretty happy, so, hey, go new timeline! (Although, Rose's cancer, wah!)

(On the topic of stupid Kate: jeez, could you move in any faster on Sawyer there? His wife just died, what, like, an hour ago? Maybe I am just so sick of these people and their romantic problems that I'm seeing intentions where there weren't any. But, ugh. Also, seeing as Hurley's girlfriend got shot, Sayid had a girlfriend *and* a wife get killed, Sawyer had a sex partner and a wife get killed, what is Kate doing thinking about being romantically involved with *any* of these people? Doesn't she realize that is the short track to the fridge?)

Given that sexy new Other leader Dogen apparently just speaks Japanese to sound *extra mysterious*, wouldn't it be awesome if, instead, he spoke Korean, which would sound equivalently mysterious to the American viewer, but would mean that later in the season he could have long conversations with Sun and Jin explaining everything that was going on, while all the white people stood around going "huh?" I would just find it hilarious and wonderful if after everything Jin has been through not understanding what's being said, it turned out he was the one guy fluent in Infodump.

Smoke dragon/Locke (henceforth referred to as, uh, Smocke?) saying "I want to go home" was oh so deliciously creepy. Favorite moment for the ep. (Runner up: Hurley telling Jacob "that sucks, dude" when Jacob tells him he just died. Oh, Hurley, you are the best.) Fingers crossed that "home" will remain suitably vague and it will never be spelled out whether he's a fallen angel, crash-landed alien, etc.

There are however some mysteries/plot points I'm hoping to see answered/resolved now that we're in the final season. Here's my list to check off as we go:

- who are Adam and Eve (the bodies in the cave)?
- what happened to Rose and Bernard and Vincent after the bomb went off?
- why did the psychic tell Claire she had to be on that plane? is there something special about Aaron? does who ends up raising him have any bearing on any of the big conflicts?
- what happened to Claire, anyways, after she vanished on the island?
- Walt?
- haha. no, seriously, Walt? do his powers have anything to do with Jacob/Smokelocke? where is he in the new timeline? what made the Others interested in him, and did Ben really let him go because he was too powerful for him to control?
- Libby? (ok, I know a spoiler from Lostpedia, which is that the actress isn't coming back and we're never really going to find out more about Libby. I've always felt like There Had To Be More There, but my mom's insistence that there Had To Be More to Topher Brink on Dollhouse, when I thought it was quite clear there wasn't, has made me very aware that sometimes one can see a gaping unexplained backstory where there just isn't. So, she was in the mental hospital, she gave away a boat, nothing to see here.)
- why doesn't Richard Alpert age? who/what is he?
- why did flight attendant Cindy happily join the Others?
- will Sun and Jin ever make it back home to their little girl?
- I think I'm forgetting at least one plot thread I care about. hmmm.
