Everything Everywhere All At Once

I always forget to write up about movies so here is a post about Everything Everywhere All At Once the very night I have watched it! It is always so exciting to me to get to watch a genuinely original movie. And, like, interesting and novel ideas, vivid visuals, *and* something to say??

There was something about it that did not sit right for me and I thought it was maybe the husband having all the answers but after thinking about it more, I think it's really the implicit division of people into "messes" and "the people who make up for them", like Evelyn has a specific line to her dad about how Joy is like her but they have Waymond and Becky respectively, who are, I guess, naturally magically good? Or have chosen to be good and it... fixed them somehow in a way that I don't think was going to be accessible to Evelyn or Joy? And what about everyone who doesn't have someone like that? I don't know, there's just something not satisfying to me there.

But I loved getting to watch a movie about Michelle Yeoh on a hero's journey, and Michelle Yeoh getting to be badass, and getting such a big range of moments, and she'd *better* get a nom for best actress. And I like that it really went for truly weird, and put so much on the screen that I really had not seen before or saw coming (I *really* did not think that was a Chekhov's buttplug situation). So, yay, overall.
