Why does everyone like the Tartarus story so much? It's just a nasty little gotcha.

Hm, I liked the Tartarus story; it felt more like "slowly unfolding horror with a nice reveal/callback" than like "a smug gotcha twist", to me anyway. What made you feel gotcha-ed about it?
