Oh, that's so interesting that there were earlier versions with more Siob! Siob as the main character, that must have been so different.
I don't think I would say that the fanfiction angle is the most interesting or most important aspect of the book, it's just the one that I had to think about the most. Because at first I was just like "RPF, WTF", but that wasn't very satisfying. I would love to hear more about your thoughts about how the different parents demonstrate different shortcomings! I found the parents a bit hard to keep track of at first and did not put a huge amount of effort into developing clear pictures of most of them - I feel like I've only really ended up with opinions of Pip and of Squell. Another thing I might reread for if/when I get the chance. (I had a lot of feelings about Squell being the one parent who's there for Fift in the climax, even if it's only because they're heading to a place with Ellix after.)
It feels transgressive to think of pestering an author, but I will consider it on your raising of the possibility! At least I wouldn't be looking for the answers to a homework assignment.
