2020 online short SFF - novelettes from the Locus list, A-L
An Important Failure, Rebecca Campbell, Clarkesworld. Oh, wow. This is beautiful. Climate change, and music, and choices. Campbell wrote one of my favorite stories last year too.
The Black-Eyed Goddess of Apple Trees and Farmers' Wives, Erin Eisenhour, Beneath Ceaseless Skies. Great voice in this.
The Pill, Meg Elison. A fat girl resists when a new weight-loss pill becomes normalized. This story grapples with major fatphobia but is from a fat perspective and the author is body-positive. But, like, be careful, pretty dark stuff here.
How Quini the Squid Misplaced His Klobučar, Rich Larson, Tor.com. Aha, I remember reading this a year ago. Tense-as-fuck gonzo cyberpunk heist action, gosh I love Larson's stuff.
To Balance the Weight of Khalem, R.B. Lemberg, Beneath Ceaseless Skies. This almost seems more like poetry than fiction which is not always my thing but it also has moments that are like something Le Guin could have written, so.
