she danced until her feet turned into sausages
Went to Hogmanay! Danced a mere 12 of 30 but was enough to exhaust me to the point of getting sick. Was utterly miserable last night anticipating having to go to work (since boss would almost certainly not believe a claim of illness the day after New Year's given his preexisting dissatisfaction with how much I work) but wasn't actually *that* bad this morning... feverishness had gone down during the night, and the ringing in my ears went away, and was mostly just face-hurting (and dance soreness) to contend with. Horrid nasty raw feeling in my nose all day at work, and also, more truly worrisome, in my right ear, but got very much better when I made it home and got to drink hot liquids. Yay, steam. Also was pretty tired (to the point of taking a twenty-minute nap at my desk late-afternoon, which fortunately my boss either didn't notice, or decided to forgive) but feel like I should be well enough by the weekend to go have fun (pity the plans are for poker on Friday, and then *bowling* on Saturday, of all things... I had to skip sushi tonight ::pout::). Not looking forward to going back into the super-dry lab air and the not-even-being-able-to-go-get-a-drink-of-water-while-in-the-middle-of-stuff tomorrow, though. Being sick at work sucks. Being sick on the bus also sucks; people kept glaring at me every time I had to blow my nose.
But anyways, about that ball: it's possible it was waking up from my nap to dance the last couple dances that pushed me over, but I can't regret an exuberant Davy Nick Nack with DE (okay, that looks like "Death Eater" to my HP-adjusted eye) or dancing with KE and *not* feeling like an idiot. Earlier on, Culla Bay with MR, which is this *lovely* stately flowy Strathspey, and Reel of the 51st with LP-M, despite having already danced with him, just because whee, and, um, messing up *Flowers of Edinburgh* with JT near the beginning and much giggling ensuing, and fun with the reel cutting-in-front with JM in Pelorus Jack. And half a dozen other dances, and three lovely waltzes. Missed you, Cecilia!
And earlier than the ball, hanging out in Greylock, and actually getting to watch my Secret Santa be enthused by his gift. And later, listening to Neil Gaiman read _Coraline_ in the car on the way back up, which is spooky and oh-so-good, and from whence the subject quote hails.
